Turning Instagram photos into artwork

With Instagram blowing up, we've had a great time finding ways to turn your photos into photo albums, pillows, coasters and even chocolate. But one of the most obvious uses for your favorite snapshots is, of course, art for your walls. And now there's a great service that does a beautiful and affordable job with it.

I gave InstaThis a shot. The custom photo print service syncs with your Instagram account and allows you to print your favorite photos directlly from your photostream onto acrylic or wood. I opted for the wood, which I think works really nicely with Instagram photos--especially black and white or sepia tones, when the natural birch grain is able to show through and give it texture and richness.

The process couldn't be simpler: give the app access to your Instagram photos, choose a picture, pick one of four sizes from 6x6 to 12x12 and...that's pretty much it.

I started with a Manhattan skyline photo I had taken recently and I'm really pleased with the results. It's not just pure printing--there's some artistic manipulation involved to make sure it comes out great.
