I love how technology has made it easier than ever to support worthy causes that need our help, and as a military spouse, our country's troops and their families are certainly at the top of my list, especially today on Veterans Day.
Here are 3 easy ways you can provide much needed help to the amazing service men and women, as well as their families, all thanks to tech. -Kristen
1. Online donation
In many cases, you can use your smart phone or tablet to support a worthy cause. Unfortunately, with so many bogus charities out there, be sure to cross check your cause with sites like CharityWatch or Charity Navigator. Given the immediacy of the Hurricane Sandy needs, we really support the work of Team Rubicon, who utilize the skill sets of war veterans to provide aid and support in crisis zones.
2. Donate your old gadgets
Cell Phones for Soldiers is currently collecting old cell phones and then donating them for use by deployed service men and women. Giving soldiers a free phone enables them to keep in touch with their friends and family on a more frequent basis, something that I know first hand is so important.
You can also trade-in your phone at SmartphoneTradeIn.com, where they'll donate $5 to Operation Gratitude, an organization that provides care packages to veterans, U.S. Troops and their families.
3. Social media
You can even use your social media addiction for a good cause. If you're on Twitter, @History is donating $1 for every tweet up to $10,000 with the hashtag #ThankAVet to America's VetDogs, a cool non-profit that provides service dogs and training to disabled vets.
