Monsters that your preschooler won't be afraid of

Preschoolers aren't usually very fond of monsters (Elmo not withstanding), what with them hiding under beds and in dark closets. But after your toddler gets a peek at a family of quirky monsters that help them learn numbers, colors and words, they may have a different take.
The Monsters Family app
is a very cute educational app that takes little kids way beyond those
simple ABC apps. Using the Monster family--Mom, Dad, Ella, Elliot and
Scrumpy the dog--as the main characters, kids can choose who they want
to play with and learn from. Each two-eyed (or three-eyed) character shows a
series of activities and prompts kids to engage in fun activities; like
find the objects that are purple, make three pairs or match the word to
the object.
One teeny thing: The typeface used looks vaguely handwritten, which isn't always the best type of font for very early readers. However the animation and graphics are adorable, the skills taught are very solid basics, and
the monsters are not scary in the least bit.
I also love that it's
ad-free and there are no in-app purchases that wandering fingers can
push away on. Now that's what's scary to me. -Jeana
